Regaining Trust: The Ruck Report

NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING

Where:


Online for all NSBS members and the public. Council, Implementation Task Force Members,

and Equity Committee Chairs are invited to attend in person at Borden Room, Nova Scotia

Barristers’ Society Office, Suite 800, 2000 Barrington St., Halifax, Nova Scotia.


Background:


In April 2021, the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society (NSBS) publicly acknowledged and expressed regret regarding the existence of systemic discrimination in our justice system


At that time, the organization’s Council committed to undertaking:


A comprehensive external independent review of policies and processes to identify and address any areas of systemic discrimination that exist within the Society.

Douglas Ruck KC was appointed as the independent, external reviewer. Since beginning

his work, Mr. Ruck has delivered two verbal updates to Council, and his final report will be delivered to NSBS on October 29, 2024, at a specially scheduled meeting of Council.


All NSBS members, committee members, staff members, and members of the public are

welcome to attend the online event, further to details below.
