Forensic Assessment & Treatment Unit

The Forensic Assessment and Treatment Unit oversees the recruitment, training, and ongoing support of mental health counsellors and social work professionals conducting Impact of Race and Culture Assessments™ (IRCAs™). The unit also ensures that adequate treatment and services are available to African Nova Scotians involved in the criminal justice system.

 

The Forensic Assessment and Treatment Unit provides:

 

  • Recruitment, training, and support for IRCA™ writers.

  • Continuing education for lawyers, members of the judiciary, and other professionals involved in the assessment and presentation of IRCAs™.

  • Oversight of the IRCA™ delivery framework.

  • Policy and strategy development for mental health service delivery.
