Data Collection & Research Unit
The Data Collection and Research Unit focuses on combating systemic anti-Black racism within Canada’s justice system by analyzing and interpreting data on policing and justice in Nova Scotia. Information collected is shared through reports, publications, community engagements, and the media. It is also used to support advocacy efforts aimed at influencing policy change.
Current projects of the Data Collection and Research Unit include:
-
IRCA™–Legal Project: Examining the effectiveness of IRCAs in the court system.
-
IRCA™ Tool Development: Creating a tool that can be used at bail.
-
Gender-Based Violence Research: Supporting a project aimed at addressing gender-based violence within the African Nova Scotian community.
