DeRico Symonds

Director of Engagement and Communications

With over 15 years of experience in community advocacy, youth development, and justice reform, DeRico has dedicated his career to advancing equity and amplifying African Nova Scotian voices. A graduate of Mount Saint Vincent University (B-CYS) and Acadia University (MEd, Counselling), he is also a Certified Canadian Counsellor.

DeRico has co-led national initiatives, advised government on justice policy, and is a senior Impact of Race and Culture Assessment (IRCA) writer. His work is rooted in community, leadership, and creating pathways for systemic change.
